Tax Code

Your tax code will normally start with a number and end with a letter. 1257L is the most common tax code currently used. The numbers in your tax code tell your employer or pension provider how much tax-free income you get in that tax year. Letters in your tax code refer to your situation and how it affects your Personal Allowance.

Pension contribution (employee part)

Percentage of your earnings that you put into your workplace pension scheme, if any, based on earnings between the lower and upper earnings limit.

Pension contribution (employer part)

Percentage of your earnings that your employer put into your workplace pension scheme, if any. In some schemes, your employer has the option to pay in more than the legal minimum (3%). In these schemes, you can pay in less as long as your employer puts in enough to meet the total minimum contribution (8%).
